Opportunities:  Volunteering

These are known immediate needs.  We have a multi-departmental volunteer intake form that has something for everyone and if not, we’re happy to work with you to find a match that’s just right for you.  To inquire about the above mentioned positions or any other volunteer need, contact Amy Wedel at 620-327-3414 or volunteer@svilla.orgThank You!  


  • Driver (Transportation)
    Transport residents to appointments via personal vehicle or Schowalter Villa van or bus. Valid drivers license and good driving record required. CDL required for bus drivers. There is milage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle.

  • Bingo Substitutes (Activities)
    Help with Bingo (3 o’clock on Monday afternoons) when other volunteers are unavailable. Tasks range from popping and passing popcorn, gathering residents, handing out prizes and helping residents play the game. This is always a well-attended and fun activity!

  • Usher (Chaplain)
    Usher events in the Chapel approximately 2 times a month. Days and times are flexible. Ushers also help to arrange chairs for performances and/or speakers.

  • Buffet Dining Assistants (Activities)
    Assist residents through the buffet line in the Harvest and Meadowlark Dining Rooms by carrying trays, getting drinks, and helping residents find seating. Work side-by-side with an excellent dietary staff. Volunteers are needed for breakfast (7:00am - 8:00am) and supper (5:00pm - 6:00pm) mealtimes, Monday - Sunday. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for the entire family!

  • Library Assistants (Activities)
    Times flexible. Assistance is greatly needed with a variety of “pieces” such as order library supplies and books, renew subscriptions, help process books, follow-up on overdue books, and weed book collection. Can choose to help with one “piece” at times convenient to you. Volunteer Coordinator and Villa Library Volunteers will assist in “training”.

  • Volunteer Visitors (Activities)
    Provide one-on-one interactions with residents, either on your own or with a friend or family member. Visitors can read, write letters, visit the library or Wellness Center, walk around Dyck Arboretum of the Plains or enjoy a cup of cappuccino or ice cream at the Ice Cream Shoppe on Schowalter Villa's Main Street. Visits may range from 5-30 minutes or longer depending on the resident's and volunteer's time. Days and times can be flexible.

  • Ice Cream Shoppe ()
    Serve ice cream and cappuccino to residents, staff, and family members at the Ice Cream Shoppe on Schowalter Villa's Main Street. Mondays - Fridays between the hours of 2:00pm - 5:00pm.
