Real People, Real Needs

Schowalter Villa is home to a very diverse group of people.  Their careers are as varied as their cultures.  As time passes and health concerns arise, these people seek help through the services provided at the Villa.  Each person who lives in healthcare and assisted living has sowed seeds in some way in their life.  Irene Weaver is one of these “seed sowers”

Irene Lehman Weaver is “a daughter of India.” She was born & raised in India 96 years ago. After moving to the United States to complete her college education, Irene married Ed Weaver. They returned to India in 1935 and ministered there for 21 years.  Then God led them to Africa, where they lived 17 years until the Biafran War forced them to leave.  Eventually they found retirement at Schowalter Villa.

Irene continues to be a missionary at Schowalter Villa.  “You can’t take the passion for ministry out of a missionary.  Just because I can’t do what I did before …

I do what I can.”

You Can Help

Every gift given to Schowalter Villa makes a significant difference in the lives of our residents. You may choose how you would like to have your gifts used.  Your donations may be designated for any of the funds described on this page, or, you may elect to have your gift used where you personally feel it would have the most significant and immediate impact. We also appreciate memorial gifts, donations commemorating birthdays or anniversaries, and other occasions

Good Samaritan Fund  Our mission is to provide continuing services even when residents outlive their financial resources.  Annual gifts to the Good Samaritan Fund from residents, family, and friends help support this mission. The fund was created to provide immediate assistance to residents in financial need. The Good Samaritan fund preserves the quality of life and dignity of our residents.

In 2006 Schowalter Villa provided over $304,000 of charitable care,

assisting over 50% of our health care and assisted living residents.

It is projected the Good Samaritan Fund will need a similar amount in 2007.

Good Samaritan Endowment Fund  You may choose to designate your gift to this endowed fund, so that only the income from the gift is available for use each year.  The principal is left intact to provide future earnings.

Wellness Center  Maintaining and promoting good health is a top priority for the Hesston Wellness Center. You can help assure the future of this outstanding facility by contributing to the Wellness Center’s annual financial needs or Endowment Fund.

Capital Items Annually there are capital items at Schowalter Villa that need to be purchased or replaced.  Some years there is also a need for major renovations. These items are great for Sunday School Class projects or other civic groups, and are excellent for Honor and Memorial gifts. For a list of items needed for Schowalter Villa, please contact the Development office staff.

Please take this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our seniors
