Serving The Greater Community

Arts and Education

Creativity, an important part of senior living at Schowalter Villa

Creative Arts at Hesston Wellness Center, on the Schowalter Villa campus, promotes creativity and community through a program that includes two and three-dimensional media. Opportunities include pottery classes instructed by Lynda Legg and guest teachers, a Watercolor Art Club led by Sue Kruger, and an oil painting workshop and club.

Have you ever wanted to paint with watercolors?

Join the Watercolor Art Club!

No experience required.

The Ceramics studio is led by Lynda Legg, a potter and a painter.  Lynda is currently working towards a BFA in Studio Arts at Wichita State University.

"To me, taking ceramics class is all about feeling a sense of community with others.  It begins as you work alongside others towards a common goal and it carries on long after the class is over as that mug, bowl, or jar you made during class is used for everyday family gatherings."  -Lynda Legg

Lynda's work can be seen on display throughout the Hesston Wellness Center and Lakeside Village.  Her studio hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 PM.  To contact Lynda, call 620-327-3484 or email

Watercolor Art Club

The Watercolor Art Club, led by Sue Kruger, joins artists from the Schowalter Villa campus and the wider community who share a passion for painting with watercolors. They meet Thursday mornings in the Creative Arts Studio at the Hesston Wellness Center from 9:30am-11:30am. If interested, the club invites you to join them to see what its all about.

You can enjoy the art painted by these artists on the walls throughout the Wellness Center and Lakeside Village. The club annually celebrates their accomplishments with an open house the last Thursday in April. This is a free event, open to the community with artwork available for purchase.

Oil Painting Workshop and Club

Generally the third Saturday of each month, from 9am-3pm in the Creative Arts Studio, an oil painting workshop is offered and open to Villa residents and community members. Each month features a different subject and no two paintings turn out alike. This is a great opportunity for new and experienced artists to share their knowledge and skills with each other. If interested, contact the Wellness Center front desk.  There is a $30 fee for supplies.

If you enjoy oil painting on your own terms, you are also welcome to join the club on Tuesday mornings at 9:00am.  Anyone who might be interested is invited to show up and see if it's for you!  Bring your supplies, work on your personal projects, and enjoy the company!
